Baha'i Fast Mar 2 to Mar 20

In clear cases of weakness, illness, or injury the law of the Fast is not binding. This injunction is in conformity with the precepts of God, eternal in the past, eternal in the future. Well is it with them who act accordingly. Bahá’u’lláh

Verily, I say, fasting is the supreme remedy and the most great healing for the disease of self and passion. Bahá’u’lláh

"O God! as I am fasting from the appetites of the body and not occupied with eating and drinking, even so purify and make holy my heart and my life from aught else save Thy Love… Thus may the spirit associate with the Fragrances of Holiness and fast from everything else save Thy mention." Abdu’l-Bahá

Well is it with you, as you have followed the Law of God and arisen to observe the Fast during these blessed days, for this physical fast is a symbol of the spiritual fast. This Fast leadeth to the cleansing of the soul from all selfish desires, the acquisition of spiritual attributes, attraction to the breezes of the All-Merciful, and enkindlement with the fire of divine love. Abdu’l-Bahá

Fasting is the cause of the elevation of one's spiritual station. Abdu’l-Bahá

Alternatives to consumer culture is the focus of new Baha'i documetnt

"A new statement challenging the common assumption that human beings are slaves to self-interest and consumerism has been issued by the Baha'i International Community.

A more profound look at human nature would reveal the ability to respond to a higher calling, suggests the document – issued this week for the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development as it began its annual two-week session.

"The culture of consumerism ... has tended to reduce human beings to competitive, insatiable consumers of goods and to objects of manipulation by the market," it says.

In fact, "the human experience is essentially spiritual in nature: it is rooted in the inner reality – or what some call the 'soul' – that we all share in common," it states.

The document, titled "Rethinking Prosperity: Forging Alternatives to a Culture of Consumerism," challenges the view that there is an intractable conflict between what people want – which supposedly is to consume more – and what humanity needs.

Unity of Religion is possible by the Baha'is

Wonderful article from Minnesota, USA

It seems an honorable goal for any religion – to unite people of all backgrounds, rise above the division and prejudice of the world, and become lovers of all humankind.

That’s what people of the Baha’i faith hope to achieve. They want people to recognize that we are all children of one loving God. They want to unite all the races and peoples of the world. They want civilization to be built on a foundation of love and justice........................

When talking about matters of faith with one another, everyone wants others to respect their views. Practice self-restraint and concern for other people’s freedom and dignity. This means:

• Listening as well as speaking.

• Being honest about beliefs and religious alliances.

• Correcting misunderstandings between faiths when they arise.

• Respect the rights of others to disagree with you.

Results of Prayer

“The point of our existence on this planet isn’t simply a longer life. The point of our existence is to know God, to worship God, to serve God.” Dr. Taeed Quddusi, one of the speakers at the 32nd annual conference of the North American Association for Baha’i Studies: ...

Prophet Mohammad has said: Prayer is like a ladder suspended between heaven and earth by which we can ascend to paradise.

Baha'u'llah has revealed: I beseech Thee...to make of my prayer a fire that will burn away the veils which have shut me out from Thy beauty, and a light that will lead me unto the ocean of Thy Presence.

Abdu'l-Baha tells us that prayer is "conversation with God", ... "Man must live in a state of prayer".

Our family is trying to live in state of prayer by loving and respecting all human being, by teaching our children the virtues; Truthfulness, kindness, love, honesty....., by making a difference in our community and serving people in need.....

Prophets of God and miracles....

Bahá'u'lláh states that one should not deny the performance of miracles by the Holy Souls, but emphasizes that miracles are not a conclusive proof of the authenticity of Their Messages. The greatest and the most evident sign of Prophethood has always been the Revelation of the Word of God. Everything created in this world is a miracle in itself if we look at it with the eye of discernment. For example, the outpouring of energy from the sun is a miracle indeed, for the mind of man could never have believed in such a phenomenon if he had not actually seen the radiance of the sun with his own eyes.

Irresistible power of the Cause of Baha'u'llah

We read few paragraphs from Baha'u'llah's book; Book of the River, and wanted to share few points:

"Among the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh revealed in Baghdad is the Sahifiy-i-Shattiyyih (Book of the River)..... In it Bahá'u'lláh speaks about the irresistible power of the Cause of God and its sovereignty. Alluding to the Tigris which runs through Baghdad, He likens the onward march of the Faith to the flow of that river. Just as no obstacle, whether a fortified building or a mighty wall, can withstand the onrushing force of the water, or hold back its progress, so none of the enemies of the Cause, however fierce their onslaught or determined their opposition, can halt the advance of this resistless Faith of God. It will, in spite of all opposition, press onward, tear down every obstacle and ultimately establish its ascendancy over its adversaries. Similarly, the Cause of God will break up old and time-honoured institutions and will not allow any man, regardless of his rank or position, to stand in its way.

A cursory review of the history of the Faith will demonstrate the irresistible power of the Cause of Bahá'u'lláh. From the time of its inception this Faith had been oppressed by the civil and ecclesiastical authorities in the land of its birth. Its youthful Herald, the Báb, Who ushered in the dawn of a New Day and gave the glad-tidings of the coming of 'Him Whom God shall make manifest' (Bahá'u'lláh), was publicly martyred. Its Founder, Bahá'u'lláh, was imprisoned and exiled to far-off lands. For almost half a century He and His family were subjected to inhuman cruelties and hardships. No less than twenty  106  thousand of its heroes were put to death in tragic circumstances and the remainder of its followers were persecuted all their lives.

Yet, the Faith of Bahá'u'lláh, supported by the unseen hosts of the Kingdom, triumphed over its adversaries and penetrated into every part of the world.

Today its light has been diffused to every corner of the earth, its healing Message has reached almost every stratum of human society and people are responding to it in ever increasing numbers. Its adherents, enrolled from all the nations of the world, representing every race, colour and class, are actively engaged in the erection of the framework of Bahá'u'lláh's New World Order for mankind. Such achievements bear ample testimony to the fulfillment of the words of Bahá'u'lláh revealed in this Tablet over a century ago.

Bahá'u'lláh has also used the analogy of the river to demonstrate another point. He mentions that the outpourings of God's bounty are vouchsafed to all creation equally, but that every created thing receives them in accordance with its capacity.

What is Religion?

"how religion can be and must be the main instrument for happiness and unity for all humanity...."

Abdu'l Baha defines Religion:
"Religion, moreover, is not a series of beliefs, a set of customs; religion is the teachings of the Lord God, teachings  which constitute the very life of humankind, which urge high thoughts upon the mind, refine the character, and lay the groundwork for man's everlasting honour.
(Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha)

Rely upon God.
Trust in Him,
Praise Him and call
Him continually to mind.
He, verily, turneth trouble into ease,
and sorrow into solace,
and toil into utter peace.
He verily hath dominion over all things.

One Song - One World

From a dear friend: "Below is a link to one of the best pieces of sound engineering work I think I have ever seen.  It is a composite audio/video of song whereby additional tracks were laid in by different singers and musicians from different places around the world.
The finished product is tremendous!"

"The song itself is that classic standard "Stand By Me" originally released in 1955 by The Staple Singers and released again in 1961 by the Drifters......"
"May all find a part to play. May all appreciate the contributions of others…"

We are as the bird which soareth.....

"Once a man found a young eagle in a forest and took it home and put it in his barnyard. The eagle ate the chicken feed and behaved just as chickens do. One day a naturalist friend noticed it and asked the owner why the eagle, king of all birds, was confined with the chickens. "Since I have given it chicken feed and trained it to be a chicken, it has never learned to fly," answered the man. "Still," insisted the naturalist, "it has the heart of an eagle, and certainly it can be taught to fly" Mary Robinson Reynolds..... here is the movie; http://www.EagleParableMovie.com

Now back to our life, our soul comes from God and will return to God. Our body does not contain our soul and when our life ends our body will return to the world of dust. But our soul will go to the spiritual worlds of God. Conclusion; We are spiritual beings.......

"Ye are even as the bird which soareth, with the full force of its mighty wings and with complete and joyous confidence, through the immensity of the heavens, until, impelled to satisfy its hunger, it turneth longingly to the water and clay of the earth below it, and, having been entrapped in the mesh of its desire, findeth itself impotent to resume its flight to the realms whence it came. Powerless to shake off the burden weighing on its sullied wings, that bird, hitherto an inmate of the heavens, is now forced to seek a dwelling-place upon the dust. Wherefore, O My servants, defile not your wings with the clay of waywardness and vain desires, and suffer them not to be stained with the dust of envy and hate, that ye may not be hindered from soaring in the heavens of My divine knowledge." Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh

Fasting started Mar 2nd

“ O God! as I am fasting from the appetites of the body
and not occupied with eating and drinking,
even so purify and make holy my heart
and my life from aught else save Thy Love,
and protect and preserve my soul from self-passions and animal traits.
Thus may the spirit associate with the Fragrances of Holiness
and fast from everything else save Thy mention. “

Practicing therapeutic touch in Egypt in summer of 2008

During our spiritual journey through life there are moments and episodes that move and shift us so dramatically we have no choice but to change and take action. My three month long stay in Egypt during the summer of 2008 proved to be such an episode. One that would confirm my knowledge of therapeutic touch combined with my love of community service could come together with amazing results.
Being Egyptian and having lived in Cairo most of my life I was more than aware of the extreme conditions that cause enormous stress in people’s lives. Our citizens were left to live in an environment that is physically, emotionally and spiritually draining.
I felt drawn to somehow help relieve the pressures in the lives of those good, strong people so I discussed with my mother the possibility of holding a ‘Spiritual Healing Devotion’ evening twice a week in her home. She opened her door with loving arms and I began to invite people. It was an immediate success. I invited neighbors, friends, friends of friends and human rights groups. The guests were a diverse group from all ages, religions and social status. The common thread between all of them was their desire for something other than their daily struggles.
I began by welcoming and praising everyone for their willingness to participate and swiftly moved on to begin talking about energy. What is energy? Are they aware of it in their bodies and their lives? Do they know how it affects their relationships and everyday happenings? After discussing this I went on to prove the existence of energy by having the group sit in a unity circle and place their hands, without touching, above their neighbors and more…. From this they began to understand how, once their spiritual part is uplifted and aware of their positive energy they will achieve positive thinking.
From this higher level of energy within the room I went on to explain how we can send each other colors. This peaceful energy that was being experienced combined with the relaxing atmosphere that I had created with candles and soft music enveloped the guests to a relaxed state and enabled them to move freely into a ten to fifteen minute meditation.
After the meditation I invited whoever wished to contribute to read from their holy writings. Each session I would choose a theme to discuss and the participants spoke freely and with ease. After this devotion period we would break for refreshments and social time. It was during this time I chose to practice therapeutic touch. As the other guests were mingling, discussing the previous activities I was able to have one on one with the individual in a quiet corner.
I began by cleanse them of all negative energy, Then I would attempting to balance all parts of their lives, and then I would ground them. This process was then repeated two to three times until all negativity was released.
The result was truly beautiful and without fail every person would open up their hearts and release their tears. Emotion flowing freely they felt a sense of self that had not been experienced before. This escape away from mind, away from relationships, worries, stresses and fears felt like a new beginning.
Unanimously people wanted to return, so with the generosity of my mother opening her house so freely I decided to offer therapeutic touch for no charge twice weekly. Without fail every session was a full house of between 15-25 people.

One of my goals is to be able to offer the beautiful people of Egypt new hope in themselves, to help them to find strength to overcome their difficulties, to be an instrument for them to renew their faith was far more than I could ever have dreamed of yet, it became reality. Through my knowledge of therapeutic touch I was able to leave a lasting impression in many people’s lives. I feel truly blessed to be able to offer this and it is my mission to continue this work to the best of my ability to not only the people of Egypt, but of the world.

Importance of Daily Prayer

In our Ruhi book 1 group today, we studied the second Unit and understood more about prayer:
  • Prayer is a conversation with God, Prayer serves to bring us nearer to God

  • Profit Muhammed has said that prayer is like a ladder suspended between heaven an earth by which we ca ascend to paradise

  • Baha'u'llah has revealed: "I beseech Thee...to make of my prayer a fire that will burn away the veils which have shut me out from Thy beauty, and a light that will lead me unto the ocean of Thy Presence"

  • "There is nothing sweeter in the world of existence than prayer.........It creates spirituality, creates mindfulness and celestial feelings, begets new attractions of the Kingdom and engenders the susceptibilities of the higher intelligence." Abdu'l-Baha

Our understanding on how we pray and purpose of prayer was changed completely.....

Please God Heal our sick friends -

''Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance
of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope,
and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy
to me is my healing and my succor in both this
world and the world to come. Thou, verily,
art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing,
the All-Wise.''
Bahá'u'lláh
