Myth #1: Baha’is are a Zionist entity and, therefore, not entitled to any rights.  Last month, Mahmoud Ghozlan, a spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood, said Baha’is are of “Zionist origin” and, thus, should not be protected under the constitution to practice their faith publicly.  What “origin” has to do with constitutional protections for any of Egypt’s citizens is anyone’s guess. Leaving this point aside, the particular accusation is baseless.  It is leveled solely because the Baha’i world headquarters is in Haifa, Israel.  This, however, was clearly not the preference of Baha’i leaders at the time.  The faith’s founder, Baha’u’llah, was imprisoned and exiled throughout the region during Ottoman rule in the 1800s: from Iran and Iraq to Turkey and Palestine. Baha’u’llah died while under house arrest in 1892 in Acre, Palestine.  It was his family and followers who established the administrative center of the faith there, more than a half century before 1948, the year the state of Israel was born.  Moreover, based on the logic of his position, Ghozlan would be forced to call every resident of Palestine or Israel a Zionist.  Clearly, that’s not what he meant, but this demonstrates the absurdity of his claim about the Baha’is.  Of the nearly six million Baha’is in the world today, fewer than 1,000 reside in what is now Israel.  They serve as temporary volunteers at the Baha’i World Center and eventually return to their home countries after a short period. 

Myth #2: Baha’is are a threat to national security.  Like Myth #1, this dubious claim hinges on the location of the Baha’i world headquarters in Israel.  This claim is made most frequently by conservative clerics such as Abdel Moneim al-Shahat, a prominent Salafi leader who reportedly once said that Islam forbids playing or watching soccer.  In February, he stated that Baha’is are a security threat, claimed that Baha’is deserve no rights in a new constitution, and asserted that Baha’is should be tried for treason. Such irresponsible statements promote the further demonization of Baha’is in society and pour fuel on the fire of extremist attacks on Baha’is. 

Myth #3: Baha’is are apostates from Islam and, therefore, should be eliminated by the state.  Al-Shahat, and others like him cite Al-Azhar’s fatwas declaring Baha’is as apostates.  This accusation is based on numerous fatwas issued by the Islamic Research Academy at Al-Azhar University over the years, most recently reiterated in 2003.  The gist of the argument is a theological one, that Baha’is claim divine revelation after the Prophet Muhammad, which makes them apostates from Islam because, in their view, Muhammad was the last of the Prophets from God.

However, religion experts explain that the Baha’i faith emerged out of Islam similar to the way Christianity sprang from Judaism and is separate and distinct.  In fact, in 1925, Egypt became the first predominantly Muslim state to recognize the Baha’i faith as an independent religion after an Egyptian court ruled that the faith indeed was separate from Islam, and consequently, Baha’is could not be deemed heretics or apostates.  This ruling led to greater emancipation for the Egyptian Baha’is in the decades thereafter, and they were legally recognized in the 1930s until the 1960 ban.  Since then, conservative clerics and political leaders alike have used Al-Azhar’sfatwas and Nasser’s ban to justify discrimination, vilification, and incitement.

Among other principles of Bahá'u'lláh's teachings was the harmony of science and religion. Religion must stand the analysis of reason. It must agree with scientific fact and proof so that science will sanction religion and religion fortify science. Both are indissolubly welded and joined in reality.

Be Truthful

“There was once a disciple of Muhammad who asked of another disciple, ‘What shall I do to please God?’ And the other disciple replied: ‘Do not kill. Do not steal. Do not covet,’ etc., etc., etc. A great many ‘do not's’” then “He asked still another, ‘What shall I do to become nearer to God?’ And this one said: ‘You must supplicate and pray. You must be generous. You must be courageous,’ etc., etc., etc. Then the disciple went to ‘Ali. ‘What do you say I should do in order to please God and to become nearer to Him?’ ‘One thing only: be truthful.’” Abdul-Baha said “if you are truthful, you cannot commit murder. You would have to confess it! Neither can you steal. You would have to confess it. So, if one is truthful, he possesses all the virtues.

"These schools for academic studies must at the same time be training centers in behaviour and conduct, and they must favour character and conduct above the sciences and arts. Good behavior and high moral character must come first, for unless the character be trained, acquiring knowledge will only prove injurious. Knowledge is praiseworthy when it is coupled with ethical conduct and virtuous character; otherwise it is a deadly poison, a frightful danger. A physician of evil character, and who betrayeth his trust, can bring on death, and become the source of numerous infirmities and diseases.

Devote ye the utmost attention to this matter, for the basic, the foundation-principle of a school is first and foremost moral training, character and the rectification of conduct." Abd'l-Baha

Character of the Religious Person

For every thing, however, God has created a sign and symbol, and established standards and tests by which it may be known. The spiritually learned must be characterized by both inward and outward perfections; they    must possess a good character, an enlightened nature, a pure intent, as well as intellectual power, brilliance and discernment, intuition, discretion and foresight, temperance, reverence, and a heartfelt fear of God. For an unlit candle, however great in diameter and tall, is no better than a barren palm tree or a pile of dead wood.  (Abdu'l-Baha, The Secret of Divine Civilization, p. 33)

We speak only as one earnestly desiring the good pleasure of God, for We have turned Our gaze away from the world and its peoples and have sought refuge in the sheltering care of the Lord. Where the Light Shines?

The Baha'i temple in Chile is one of eight projects from around the world that received an award or citation in the program this year.

"For architects, it's the award that recognizes designs that go in a new direction," said Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini Architects of Toronto, the firm that designed the house of worship and is overseeing its construction. Representatives of the firm traveled to New York last month for the awards ceremony.

In the Baha'i scriptures Baha'u'llah designates the houses of worship as gathering places for prayer and meditation, which in the future are envisioned to be the center of a group of buildings housing social, humanitarian, educational and scientific institutions.

The house of worship in Chile, like the others, will be financed entirely by voluntary contributions from Baha'is around the world.

*فتفرغ لتأليف كتاب عن « مستقبل بلاده الاقتصادي » في عام 1970 ...

* وتم اعادة انتخابه «سيناتور» في عام 1974 ...تم اختياره وزيراً للتعليم في عام 1975*

،عمل*مساعداً لرئيس الوزراء في عام 1978 ، ثم رئيساً للوزراء في عام 1981 ، كرر في عام 1981 ،

لتبدأ النهضة الشاملة التي قال عنها في كلمته بمكتبة الإسكندرية إنه استوحاها من أفكار النهضة المصرية على يد محمد علي ..

* فماذا فعل « الجراح العبقري » ؟

أولاً: رسم خريطة لمستقبل بلاده حدد فيها الأولويات والأهداف والنتائج ،

التي يجب الوصول إليها خلال 10 سنوات .. وبعد 20 سنة .. حتى عام 2020 !!!

ثانياً: قرر أن يكون التعليم والبحث العلمي هما الأولوية الأولى على رأس الأجندة ،

وبالتالي خصص أكبر قسم في ميزانية الدولة ليضخ في التدريب والتأهيل للحرفيين *.. والتربية والتعليم ..*...محو الأمية ..

*وتعليم الإنكليزية ..*وفي البحوث العلمية ..*كما أرسل عشرات الآلاف كبعثات للدراسة في أفضل الجامعات الأجنبية ..

ثالثاً: أعلن للشعب بكل شفافية خطته واستراتيجيته ،

*أطلعهم على النظام المحاسبي الذي يحكمه مبدأ الثواب والعقاب للوصول إلى « النهضة الشاملة » ،

*صدقه الناس ومشوا خلفه ليبدأوا « بقطاع الزراعة » ..

فغرسوا مليون شتلة « نخيل زيت » في أول عامين لتصبح بلادهم أولى دول العالم في إنتاج وتصدير « زيت النخيل » !!!

* في قطاع السياحة ..قرر أن يكون المستهدف في عشر سنوات هو 20 مليار دولار

بدلاً من 900 مليون دولار عام 1981 ، لتصل الآن إلى 33 مليار دولار سنوياً ..

و ليحدث ذلك ، حوّل المعسكرات اليابانية التي كانت موجودة من أيام الحرب العالمية الثانية

الى مناطق سياحية تشمل جميع أنواع الأنشطة الترفيهية *المدن الرياضية *المراكز الثقافية والفنية ..

لتصبح بلاده « مركزاً عالمياً » للسباقات الدولية في السيارات ، والخيول ، والألعاب المائية ، والعلاج الطبيعي ،

*وفي قطاع الصناعة ..حققوا في عام 1996 طفرة تجاوزت 46% عن العام السابق

بفضل المنظومة الشاملة والقفزة الهائلة في الأجهزة الكهربائية ، والحاسبات الإلكترونية.

* وفي النشاط المالي .. فتح الباب على مصراعيه بضوابط شفافة أمام الاستثمارات المحلية والأجنبية

لبناء أعلى برجين توأم في العالم .. بتروناس..يضمان 65 مركزاً تجارياً في العاصمة وحدها ..*

وأنشأ البورصة التي وصل حجم تعاملها اليومي إلى ألفي مليون دولار يومياً.

- وأنشأ أكبر جامعة إسلامية على وجه الأرض ،

أصبحت ضمن أهم خمسمائة جامعة في العالم ،

كما أنشأ عاصمة إدارية جديدة بجانب العاصمة التجارية التي يقطنها الآن أقل من 2 مليون نسمة

* ولكنهم خططوا أن تستوعب 7 ملايين عام 2020 ،

ولهذا بنوا مطارين وعشرات الطرق السريعة تسهيلاً للسائحين والمقيمين والمستثمرين

الذين أتوا من الصين والهند والخليج ومن كل بقاع الأرض ،

يبنون آلاف الفنادق بدءًا من الخمس نجوم حتى الموتيلات بعشرين دولار في الليلة !!!

- باختصار .. استطاع هذا الرجل المعجون من عام 1981 إلى عام 2003

أن يحلق ببلده من أسفل سافلين لتتربع على قمة الدول الناهضة التي يشار إليها بالبنان ،

*عد أن زاد دخل الفرد من 100 دولار سنوياً في عام 1981 عندما تسلم الحكم إلى 16 ألف دولار سنوياً ..

وأن يصل الاحتياطي النقدي من 3 مليارات إلى 98 ملياراً ، وأن يصل حجم الصادرات إلى 200 مليار دولار ،

فلم يتعلل بأنه تسلم الحكم في بلد به 18 ديانة ، ولم يعاير شعبه بأنه عندما تسلم الكرسي في عام 1981

كان عددهم 14 مليوناً والآن أصبحوا 28 مليوناً ، ولم يتمسك بالكرسي حتى آخر نفس أو يطمع في توريثه لأبنائه أو لأحد من أقاربه ...

- في عام 2003 وبعد 21 سنة ، قرر بإرادته المنفردة أن يترك الجمل بما حمل ، رغم كل المناشدات ، ليستريح تاركاً لمن يخلفه « خريطة طريق » و« خطة عمل » اسمها « عشرين .. عشرين » .. أي شكل بلاده عام 2020

والتي ستصبح رابع قوة إقتصادية في آسيا بعد الصين ، واليابان ، والهند.

- وهكذا تفوق « الطبيب الجراح » بمهارته وحبه الحقيقي لبلده واستطاع أن ينقل بلاده

التي كانت « فأراً » إلى أن تصبح « نمراً » آسيوياً يعمل لها ألف حساب !!!.

The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.

The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.

والبهائيون على اختلاف أصولهم يُصدِّقونَ بما بين أيديهم من الكتب السماوية، يؤمنون بالرسالات السابقة دونما تفريق، ويعتقدون بأن رسالة حضرة بهاء الله - أسوة بغيرها من الرسالات السماوية - لا تمثّـل سوى مرحلة من المراحل المتعاقبة للتطور الروحي الذي يخضع له المجتمع الإنساني.

إِنَّ الدين البهائي دين عالمي مستقل كل الاستقلال عن أي دين آخر. وهو ليس طريقة من الطرق الصوفية، ولا مزيجاً مقتبساً من مبادئ الأديان المختلفة أو شرائعها، كما إنَّه ليس شُعبة من شعب الدين الاسلامي أو المسيحي أو اليهودي. وليس هو إحياء لأي مذهب عقائدي قديم. بل للدين البهائي كتبه المُنزلة، وشرائعه الخاصة، ونظمه الإدارية، وأماكنه المقدسة. أما رسالته الحضارية الموجهة إلى هذا العصر فتتلخص في المبادئ الروحية والاجتماعية التي نصّ عليها لتحقيق نظام عالمي جديد يسوده السلام العام وتنصهر فيه أمم العالم وشعوبه في اتحاد يضمن لجميع أفراد الجنس البشري العدل والرفاهية والاستقرار ويُشيّد حضارة إنسانية دائمة التقدم في ظل هداية إِلهية مستمرة.

"الحقيقة غير صحيحة"

قال المهندس عبد المنعم الشحات، المتحدث باسم الدعوة السلفية، إن الديانة البهائية خطر على الأمن القومى للبلاد، وإنه على الدولة أن تتحرك لحماية أمنها القومى من الخطر الذى يشكله من يدعون أنها ديانة.

ومن جهته رد الناشط البهائى الدكتور رءوف هندى، قائلا: أنتم تجهلون من نحن، ولا تعرفون معنى البهائية، ولكن نطالبكم أن تعترفوا بنا كمواطنين مصريين لنا حقوقا مثلكم تماما، فى إشارة منه إلى السلفيين.

وقال هندى إن التصريحات المنسوبة للبهائيين بأنهم طالبوا بإضافة مادة فى الدستور تتحدث عنهم وتقر حقوقهم غير صحيحة، مشيرا إلى أنه يجب على الدستور أن يضمن حقوق الأقليات جميعهم بالنص عليها فى الدستور المقرر إقراره لاحقا.
